A gap year is a period during which a student enrolled in an initial course of higher education temporarily suspends his or her university course in order to gain personal or professional experience in France or abroad.
It can also be taken to receive training in a field other than that of the student’s course of study.

The Césure application procedure
To make your request you must :
Register the gap year application online via the Adullact platform by clicking on the “apply” link for the commission date selected in the calendar and provide all the required supporting documents – Cf notice to download:
- a letter explaining your motivations, objectives and project in as much detail as possible,
- a curriculum vitae,
- copy of identity card or passport,
- proof of admission to the University of Rouen Normandie for 2026/2027,
- supporting documents* relating to the Césure project saved in your surname-first name file type and in pdf format (employment contract, civic service, VIE or VIA, certificate of commitment to volunteer work, registration at another institution, student entrepreneur and/or Maison de l’Entrepreneuriat, internship agreement),
- proof of enrolment for 2026/2027 at the University of Rouen Normandie*.
- the compulsory information appendix for any planned departure abroad*, filled in and signed electronically (one form per period).
* if you do not have supporting documents 4, 5, 6, 7 when you register on Adullact, you must send them by e-mail to cesure.baip@univ-rouen.fr no later than :
> 08/31/2026 for students whose gap year has been accepted by the July 09 commission,
> The day before the commission for which the student has applied, i.e.: September 2, 2026 for the commission of September 3, 2026 or September 24, 2026 for the commission of September 25, 2026.

The Césure Commission
Le projet de césure est étudié et soumis à la Commission Césure pour acceptation ou avis défavorable.
The committee’s opinion will be sent by e-mail within 2 to 3 days of the date on which the file was submitted.
If your gap year is accepted, the agreement will be sent to you for signature (via Esup signature) once we have received the supporting documents relating to your gap year project and proof of enrolment at the Université de Rouen Normandie.
The agreement, validated by the school’s signatories, will be sent to you as soon as possible, along with a certificate of continued CROUS scholarship, if you have requested one.
In the event of an unfavorable decision, the student may lodge an appeal by e-mail with the Chairman of the “Césure” working group via cesure.baip@univ-rouen.fr.
